It's time, Palmemarkt is in town. Palmemarkt is the 2nd biggest fair in the province of Antwerp and certainly the most fun one. With large and fast attractions it's a real thrill for every teen/ young adult. I'm going to tell you more about the origins and some recommendations on which attractions to choose and what the tastiest places are. Enjoy the read and let's dive in.

The history behind Palmemarkt

It all started in the middle ages when Geel was a trade village. Every year there were 4 annual fairs, Palmemarkt was one of them. They traded everything from livestock to kitchen tools. The palmemarkt was the biggest of the 4, Palmemarkt was introduced in honor of Jezus entering Jerusalem where the townspeople waved with palm branches, hence the name Palmemarkt. During the modernization of the world it slowly transformed from a trade fair to an amusement fair.

The best places to eat.

I'm going to tell you about the best places to eat and why. There isn't a good place for fries on the fair itself, but there is a stand that's there permanently called Havermarkt. It's the best place to get fries and a snack in the area. There isn't a best place for cotton candy or fairy floss, it's the best everywhere. For something sweet like syrup apples or chocolate strawberries you can always go to the stall next to the high energy. It's the largest attraction at the fair, you can't miss it. And the best for last: the apple fritters, speculaas fritters and doughnuts the best place for these is meirisonne. On the other side of Odette, I have to tell you there will be many customers because it's the best place.

The best rides

For the daredevils there are many attractions. I personally love a rough ride so I can give pretty good advice about the rides.First of all we have the high energy which I had mentioned earlier, it's the highest ride on the entire fair. Second on the list is the Shaker, a spinning attraction with 3 axles to turn, doing a flip is possible but really hard so I challenge you to try it. The last ride that I would recommend is the Crazy Dance, it's a family ride with some spice added to it. It isn't that rough so it's good for kids but at night they turn it up to make it crazy. I would recommend going in every ride I just suggested, Note the high energy has some weight restrictions for safety, we don't want to see you flying over the church.

not a ride fan?"

If you aren't a fan of fast and rough rides there are some great alternatives. There are many luna parks where you can put coins in slots. I have to warn you, it is as addictive as gambling. I wouldn't recommend letting a child do that. There are a great variety of carnival games like: ski ball, fishing ducks, throwing balls and shooting chalk, balloons or even ping pong balls. Those are really fun to play.
